What we supply
- Licker-in mote knives (also enquired as lickerin mote knives or licker in mote knives) for common card platforms
- Suction hood mote knives for waste-extraction zones
- Carding machine mote knives in single- and multi-knife arrangements
- Replacement knives matched to existing profile, length and mounting
- Supporting items: under-licker-in combing segments and carding plates
Application area
Short-staple carding in cotton, blends and regenerated fibre. Mote knives are position-specific: the knife under the licker-in works against high trash load at high surface speed, while suction hood knives govern extraction geometry under airflow. The same card model may run different knife settings depending on raw material and waste targets, so knives are always confirmed against the card model and knife position, not just overall length.
What Vaamana checks before supply
- Edge geometry and angle against the reference profile for the knife position
- Straightness over full working length (a bowed knife cannot hold a uniform gap)
- Surface finish on the working face — fibre must release, not accumulate
- Material and hardness appropriate to trash load at the position
- Mounting hole/slot positions against the machine drawing or sample
Information required from the mill
- Card make and model (e.g. carding machines from Trützschler, Rieter, LMW ranges)
- Knife position: under licker-in, suction hood, or other fixed-knife zone
- Working width of the card
- Sample or drawing if the knife has been modified from OEM condition
- Current problem, if any: waste % shift, good fibre in waste, nep rise
Common failure symptoms
Mills usually reach this page while investigating one of the following. If any of these match, mention it in your enquiry — it changes what we check first.
- Waste percentage drifting up or down without a raw-material change
- Good (spinnable) fibre appearing in licker-in droppings
- Nep levels rising although wire condition looks acceptable
- Uneven waste accumulation across the working width
- Knife edge showing local wear, nicks or reflective polish
Frequently asked questions
Are licker-in mote knives and suction hood mote knives interchangeable?
No. They serve different separation functions at different positions. The licker-in mote knife works directly against the taker-in surface at high speed; suction hood knives shape extraction under airflow. Profile, edge angle and mounting differ, so each knife is supplied position-specific.
Can mote knives be reground instead of replaced?
Light regrinding is sometimes possible, but it changes the edge geometry and effective setting distance. Once the profile has moved away from the design intent, waste behaviour becomes unpredictable and replacement is the safer decision. We assess this case by case against the knife position.
Which card models can you supply mote knives for?
Knives are supplied against the card model and knife position for common platforms used in Indian and export-market spinning mills. Share the machine model and position with your enquiry; where a non-standard or modified knife is running, a sample or drawing is used to confirm the profile.
